Martha Pyron, MD, RMSK (Team Physician)
Dr. Pyron is board certified in both family medicine and sports medicine. She obtained her medical degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, completed a residency program in Family Medicine at Southern Colorado Family Medicine, and pursued a fellowship in Sports Medicine at Michigan State University, Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies. After becoming board certified in both family medicine and sports medicine, she started her career as a team physician for Penn State University. She then returned to her home state of Texas and worked as a Sports Medicine Specialist and Team Physician for the University of Texas at Austin. Dr Pyron is currently the founder and president of Medicine in Motion. She is an active member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the American College of Sports Medicine. She maintains a relationship with the University of Texas by teaching classes for the Athletic Training students and by providing the Medical Director role for the Exercise In Aging Research Laboratory headed by Dr Hiro Tanaka at the University of Texas. In 2012, Dr Pyron also became certified in Musculoskeletal Sonography allowing her to provide diagnostic and procedural ultrasound exams in her office at the time of a patient visit!
Dr. Pyron has lived and worked in Austin since 2003 and has developed extensive connections with specialized orthopedic surgeons, chiropractors, acupuncturists, massage therapists, athletic trainers, strength trainers, and other healthcare professionals who provide excellent service. She enjoys working together as a team with a variety of healthcare professionals to provide customized and optimal care for her patients.
Although Dr. Pyron also has training and is board certified as a family physician, she prefers to limit her practice to sports medicine. This means that she wants you to maintain your relationship with your family doctor, but see her for sports injuries, training questions, or illnesses which affect your activity level. Please let her know how she may best help you!
In her off time, Dr Pyron enjoys a variety of outdoor and sports activities including soccer, softball, running, biking, mountain biking, strength training, yoga, swimming, and sailing.
Amy Nester, Med, ATC, LAT (Club Sports Manager)
Amy Nester, Med, ATC, LAT is a nationally certified athletic trainer (ATC). She was born in Ohio and moved to Michigan for high school. Amy graduated from Central Michigan University in 2007 with a Bachelors in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine with a Athletic Coaching minor. While at Central, she also played 4 years of rugby. Amy then moved to Phoenix, AZ to teach high school math and be the Athletic Trainer for 2 years. While in Phoenix, she graduated in 2009 from Grand Canyon University with a Master’s in Education. Amy moved to Austin in 2009 and continued to play rugby with the Austin Valkyries and work as an Athletic Trainer for the ASID and Medicine in Motion. In 2013, she became the Head Athletic Trainer and Sport Club Coordinator for Medicine in Motion. Amy has experience working with high level men’s rugby including the USA Men’s U20’s team, ice hockey, lacrosse, and other high school and college sports. In her free time, she enjoys running, hiking and playing euchre.
Raiza Aguilar, ATC is a nationally certified athletic trainer. She was born and raised in Austin. Raiza graduated from Boston University in 2013 with a Bachelors of Science in Athletic Training. While at Boston University, Raiza worked with teams at Harvard, Boston College and Massachusetts Institute of Technology as well as Boston University. While at Boston University she was on the cheerleading team. She has also worked with teams here in Austin like the semi-pro football team the Austin Vipers and the premier development soccer league team the Austin Aztex. Raiza enjoys playing soccer and field hockey in her free time.
Christopher Boylan, DPT is a physical therapist experienced in both in-patient and outpatient settings providing dynamic treatment plans and applied problem solving skills across a diverse patient population. Christopher received both his BS in Health Sciences and Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Hartford. Although new to Austin, Christopher is enjoying all the city has to offer.
Karen was born and raised in San Antonio Texas, but spent most summers fishing along the Texas coast. Karen earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Texas A&M University in 2002. In 2005, she earned her Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Texas State. After working at an outpatient clinic, she decided to try traveling physical therapy. Her assignments took her all over Texas and to the Lake Tahoe area. Upon “retiring” from traveling physical therapy, she returned to San Antonio, where she again worked in an outpatient facility and pursued her orthopedic specialization with the APTA. She also started working to improve her health and wellness by participating in group fitness classes and local runs. Since then, she earned her transitional Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Texas Medical Branch in 2014. She moved to Austin in the spring of 2014, and loves the outdoor activities she can do with her dog, Brady. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, cooking, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
Brooke Webb Gunning, MS, RD, LD is a registered and licensed dietitian specializing in sports nutrition, weight management, eating disorders, and medical nutrition therapy. She received a nutrition degree from UT Austin and completed her graduate degree at Texas A&M Kingsville. Brooke works with athletes and active people of all levels to improve health, increase energy, and maximize sports performance. She utilizes a "non-diet" approach with an emphasis on overall wellness to provide accurate nutrition information and realistic application strategies.
Cindy Eppolito is a board-certified Physician Assistant, having graduated with a Master’s Degree in Health Sciences from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Ct in 2000. She has practiced in the fields of Internal and Family Medicine as well as Allergy and Respiratory Specialties. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology at California State University and started her career in medicine as a Navy Corpsman in 1984. She is excited about the opportunity to finally join her passion for physical fitness with her knowledge and respect of body health and welfare.
In her off time, Cindy enjoys cycling, running, hiking, swimming, stand-up paddle boarding and kayaking. She recently married her sweetheart on bicycle with a trail of fellow friends and cyclists joining the celebration in Gruene, Texas.
Mauricio Pallas is a 2011 graduate of college from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor's of science degree in Human Biology. While at the University of Texas Mauricio was a part of the University of Texas Men's Soccer team. He was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, but did not want to leave Austin after attending school there. Mauricio hopes to continue his education by entering professional school in the near future. He enjoys spending lots of time outdoors and staying in great shape with a variety of sports and weight training.
For the past 10 years, Amber has been involved with sports in some form or fashion--starting with a college basketball scholarship to Huston-Tillotson University, where she played for a year in 2004 while pursuing her degree in Exercise Sports Science. She has since switched schools and graduated from Texas State University with a degree in Exercise Sports Science pre-Physical Therapy, and plans on pursuing her doctorate in Physical Therapy over the next 3 years. Amber joined the Air Force in 2009 and served 2 years active duty before switching to reserve status in 2011. From 2010 to present day, she plays softball for the Air Force Varsity Women’s Team representing Texas and was asked in 2014 to play for the All Air Force Women’s Softball team representing the United States. When she is not at work she enjoys umpiring and playing softball. When not involved with softball she spends time with her two dogs and loves to attend live music shows in Austin.
