However, the joy of cycling also comes with potential risks, and we are here to help you navigate them.
Common Cycling Injuries and Our Expert Treatments
Cycling is a fantastic way to stay active and enjoy the outdoors, but it can also lead to specific injuries if proper care is not taken. Here at MedInMotion, we specialize in treating a range of cycling-related injuries, ensuring that you receive the specialized care you need.
1. Iliotibial Band Syndrome (ITB)
The ITB is a band of tissue that runs along the outside of the thigh, and overuse can lead to irritation and pain. Our treatment focuses on relieving inflammation, improving flexibility, and strengthening the surrounding muscles to prevent future issues.
2. Anterior Knee Pain
This common cycling injury can be caused by various factors, including improper bike setup or muscle imbalances. Our approach includes a thorough assessment of your biking ergonomics, targeted physical therapy, and strength training to alleviate pain and enhance knee stability.
3. Low Back Pain
Long hours on the bike can strain the lower back. We provide treatments that focus on improving posture, strengthening core muscles, and enhancing flexibility to relieve pain and prevent recurrence.
4. Head Injury
Safety is paramount, and head injuries require immediate attention. While prevention is key, our team is equipped to provide post-injury support and rehabilitation to ensure a safe and full recovery.
5. Clavicle Fracture
Commonly caused by falls, a fractured clavicle can be painful and debilitating. Our treatment plans are designed to promote healing, reduce pain, and regain strength and mobility in the affected area.
6. Wrist Fracture
The wrist is vulnerable in cycling falls. We offer comprehensive treatment, including immobilization, physical therapy, and strength training, to ensure a swift and complete recovery.
Ensuring a Safe and Enjoyable Cycling Experience
Bike Fitting and Maintenance
A bike that fits well not only enhances performance but also reduces the risk of injury. Ensure there is adequate clearance between you and the top tube of your bike, and pay attention to the size and positioning of your saddle and handlebars. Regular maintenance checks are also vital to ensure everything is in working order.
Strength and Conditioning
To further prevent injuries, we recommend incorporating strength and conditioning exercises into your routine, focusing on the hips, thighs, and calves. Our Cycling Performance program is designed to enhance your strength and resilience, ensuring you can enjoy cycling to its fullest.
Safety First: Tips and Rules
Safety should always be a top priority. We advocate for riding with traffic, obeying all road signals, and using proper hand signals. Reflective materials on your clothing and accessories, as well as lights and reflectors on your bike, are essential, especially in low-visibility conditions.

What our Patients Say

I travel a lot, and as a singer my health is paramount. Martha has been excellent as my family physician for years. I greatly appreciate the personal service as opposed to being a number for a large chain.

July 12, 2023Dr. Martha Pyron and her staff gave me the most thorough care I’ve ever received at a doctors office. They really listened and helped me find solutions for all of my health concerns. I am forever grateful I found this practice.

My daughter is studying in Austin, does high level cheer, is in her mid twenties with knees like someone in their seventies. Sorry sweetheart, that's probably from me, mine are rubbish. Dr Pyron has provided a course of treatment and exercise to manage the problem and keep her going as long as possible whilst minimizing further harm. Good show Martha!

I've been seeing Dr. Pyron since the beginning of the pandemic, and she's done a great job paying attention to what I need and helping to find solutions to the problems I've been having without blaming them all indiscriminately on weight. The office design is clearly HAES-informed, with comfortable seating for people of all sizes and blind weigh-ins. The team is also very friendly & helpful, particularly with managing insurance and scheduling issues.

Dr. Pyron spends quality time with patients and ensures we understand and agree with her treatment recommendations before leaving her office. I have been seeing Dr Pyron for many, many years as a primary care physician and as a Sports Medicine/Orthopedic Dr. She has always had a great staff and a great Physical Therapy team. I feel like a got the perfect all-in-one doctor. She has been there when I hurt my shoulder, broke my knee, and even had bronchitis. She has even been there after hours when she knew it was very important to inform you of something or get you the medicine you need. She also does virtual Dr visits,pt, and one on one training

There have been multiple times When I left a message at the office at 7 AM and I had resolve by nine or 10 AM. She has also helped me once when I was out of town and got really sick. July 12, 2022I am baffled by the negative reviews. Dr. Pyron literally saved my life on several occasions. She is one of those rare doctors who look at the big picture and do not just try to treat symptoms. She works hard to get to the root cause of the issues. Just to give you an example: on one occasion Dr. Pyron ordered me to have a bone density scan. The scan from the provider came back in the middle of the normal range. However, Dr. Pyron pointed out that since I have been a daily runner for a while, my numbers should be much higher. This is the kind of critical thinking that is missing from most providers. Last year when I saw her with a knee pain, she found that my left leg was swollen and ordered me to get an ultrasound immediately. It turned out to be a blood clot that we managed to treat successfully since. Should I say that just a few weeks before that visit I had a visit with my regular primary care physician who did not notice a thing? I have also taken physical therapy sessions at this location - these sessions (while painful) got me back into running. I would never give up on this practice! Dr. Pyron has been treating not just me, but my family as well. She is the best you can hope for!
